With more than 25 years of experience as a public company CFO and
adviser to both debtors and creditors, Mr. Speer has been involved in all
aspects of the reorganization process, including formulating and evaluating
business plans, performance improvement and capital structure; developing
turnaround strategies; preparing forecast models, location / customer / product
line / business segment profitability analyses, business and asset valuations
and short- and long-term cash plans.
Currently, Stan Speer is the principal of Speer & Associates
LLC, a consulting firm formed to provide practical operational, financial and
strategic solutions to organizations and their stakeholders primarily in
distressed or underperforming situations.
Previously, Mr. Speer was has been a Managing Director with Alvarez
& Marsal in Los Angeles specializing in advising and assisting boards of
directors, investment groups, management groups and lenders in a wide range of
turnaround, restructuring and reorganization situations.
Mr. Speer has led engagements spanning a variety of industries
including agriculture, technology, manufacturing, retail, media and
entertainment. Notable assignments
include: CRO and Transition Agent for Cocopah Nurseries Inc., a leading U.S.
date palm grower, CRO for Hecla Mining,
a NYSE traded mining company, advising a
publicly traded pipe manufacturer in an out of court restructuring,
advising bank groups regarding the
restructuring of a tomato processor and a nursery, advisor to a tomato grower and
shipper in its Chapter 11 proceeding, leading a severe service valve
manufacturer undergoing a DOJ investigation through a significant business
process change and control implementation, developing a turnaround strategy for
a technology company, and advising a bank group on an out-of-court
restructuring and sale of a B2B media company.
Prior to joining A&M,
Mr. Speer spent 10 years as CFO for Cadiz Inc, a publicly held real estate and
water resource management company and its subsidiary, Sun World International,
a fully-integrated agricultural company. Mr. Speer successfully managed Sun
World through a Chapter 11 restructuring and sale process. Prior to Cadiz, Mr.
Speer was a partner with a Big Five accounting firm, where he spent 14 years in
the Los Angeles office specializing in business reorganizations and mergers and
acquisitions.
Mr. Speer earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the
University of Southern California. He holds certifications as a Certified
Public Accountant (CPA)(inactive) and a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring
Advisor (CIRA). Mr. Speer is a member of the Financial Executives Institute,
and is a past board member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring
Advisors (AIRA).
